1) The political parties act as a link between government and people.
2) The political parties convey the demands and complaints of the people to the government.
3) Information about various government policies and schemes are conveyed to the people by the political parties.
4) People's reaction to the policies and their expectations are conveyed to the government too by the parties 
5) In this way, political parties act as a link between government and the people.

Q2 How are political parties social organisations similar to each other ?

1) As social organisations actively take the initiative in resolving social problems, political parties also, in the similar manner, strive to resolve the problems of the people. It has some proposed policies and programmes for promoting collective good.
2) However, there is a difference in the goals and style of working of the political parties and other organisations.


Q3 What are the major characteristics that political parties follow ? 

Ans The major characteristics of political parties are:-
1) To be in power :
The main objective of all the political parties is achieving power through elections.
2) To pursue an idealogy: 
Every political party & has some policies, world views and a particular stand about social issues. These together make a party ideology. 
3) To have a party agenda: 
Political parties prepare their paty's agenda based on party's ideology. 
4) To establish a government -
The Party which gets majority seats in elections forms a government and which does not secure majority acts as opposition parties
5) To act as a link between government and people: 
Political parties are a link between the government and the people and work to gain support of the people.

Q4 What changes have taken place in the nature of political parties in India ?

Ans The following changes were seen in nature of political parties and the party system in India :
1) The Indian National Congress was the only dominant party in states and at the centre after independence.
2) The non - Congress parties came together and challenged single dominant party system in 1977 and defeated the Congress for the first time in history two party system got importance over one party system.
3) After 1989 Lok Sabha elections, the system of one party emerging as dominant party came to an end.
4) Since then different political parties began to come together to form coalition governments.
