Ans 1) Leadership keeps the movement active.
2) Objectives of the movement, programme of action, strategy of agitation are decided by its leaders.
3) A strong leadership makes movement effective.
4) For the above reasons movements do need a strong leadership.

Q2 Why did consumer movements came into existence.

Ans 1) Consumer movement emerged in India after the consumer Protection Act was enforced in 1986.
2) This movement believes that each member of the society is a consumer.
3) Consumers face many problems due to the changing nature of socio-economic system.
4) Adulteration, increased cost of items, frauds in weight and measures are some of the problems.
5) The consumer movement works to protect consumers from such type of frauds.

Q3 In pre-independence period women's movement was fighting for which reforms ?

Ans 1) In the pre-independence period, progressive men in India initiated the women's movement.
2) The women's movement aimed at eliminating injustice against women and ending their exploitation.
3) They helped women to lead a respectful life and participate actively in social life.
4) Raja Ram Mohan Roy, Mahatma Phule, Savitribai Phule, Maharshee Dhondo Keshav Karve, Pandita Ramabai, Ramabai Ranade took initiative in ending the practice of sati and child marriage. 
5) Reforms such as widow remarriage, women's education and right to vote to women were possible due to the work of these reformers.

Q5 When did Labour movement emerged in India ?

1) In India, labour movement emerged in the background of industrialisation.
2) The latter half of the 19th century saw the rise of textile industry and railway companies In India.
3) The workers demanded solutions to issues faced by them like unstable unemployment conditions, contract labour, financial insecurity, absence of legal protection, unlimited working hours, insecurity at work place, health hazards, etc.
4) Later, in 1920 the first organisation, named All India Trade Union Congress was established for resolving the issues of the workers.
6) In the post-independence period labour movement started working more effectively.
7) In 1960s and 1970s labour movement organised several agitations.
8) From 1980s labour movement started getting disintegrated.
9) Globalisation also affected the labour movement.
