Ans. The three types of tourism are:-
1) International tourism:-
a) International tourism is on the rise in modern times because of the availability of transport facility.
b) Marine transport has linked the coastal regions.
c) There is Trans-European railway route.
d) Aviation has brought the world closer. e) Because of the economic liberalisation policy of the Indian government the number of people travelling back and forth from India has increased.
f) They include people travelling for studies, relaxation, sightseeing, professional assignments and for shooting of films.
2) Historical tourism
a) Tourism and history are inseparable. b)The number of people visiting historical places is increasing day by day.
c) Tours are arranged to see forts, battlefields which narrate stories of valour of our ancestors and monuments made by them.
d) Tourists visit memorials of freedom fighters, forts built by Chhatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj, palaces built by kings, important places related to the Indian war of Independence and ashrams of Mahatma Gandhi and Vinoba Bhave.
e) This type of historical tourism is popular all around the world.
3) Agro tourism
a) Agro tourism, which is also known as agri tourism is rapidly developing.
b) It is specially meant for the urban population which has very little exposure to rural life and agriculture.
c) Now, Indian farmers also visit faraway places like agricultural research centres,
agricultural universities, etc.
d) They also visit countries like Israel where experimentation in advanced technology is carried out.
Q2 In what ways tourism becomes a major source of livelihood ?
Ans Tourism becomes major source of livelihood in various ways, like :-
a) Markets in the vicinity grow along with the development of tourist centre.
b) Tourists buy local handicrafts and thus cottage industry develops.
c) The demand for locally processed food items and ethnic handicrafts increases. It results in better income for local artisans.
d) Many times tourists are accompanied by guides who provide relevant information on the sight-seeing tour.
e) At some places photographers are present to click photographs for the tourists.
f) Horse keepers provide horses for horse riders.
g) It is the local people who are engaged in these activities and they can earn money for their services.
h) Thus, tourism becomes a major source of their livelihood.
Q3 What would you do to develop the surroundings of your village/town to help the growth of tourism?
Ans In order to develop the surroundings of our village/town we will do the following things which will help in the growth of tourism :-
a) We will make sure that the natural and cultural heritage of our town will be preserved and conserved.
b) We will ensure that nobody vandalises or defaces the heritage monument.
c) We will keep our surroundings clean by taking part in the cleanliness drive.
d) We will refrain from activities like writing on walls, carving on trees or painting monuments in garish colours.
e) We will request the concerned authorities to put up sign boards highlighting the importance of the place.
f) We will request the local authorities to conduct seminars to create awareness among the people about the importance and benefits of tourism.
g) We can organise 'Heritage Walk' and encourage people to support projects like conservation and preservation of historical monuments, to collect authentic information about them and publish it through media.
Q4 What are the professional fields associated with tourism?
Ans Tourism and hospitality is an industry that has the potential to create maximum employment opportunities. The following professional fields are associated with tourism
a) Hotels, lodging and boarding services.
b) Restaurants and shops selling food items.
c) The local handicrafts and cottage industries also begin to develop.
d) The demand for locally processed food items and ethnic handicraft increases. This results in better income for local artisans, business people and wage earners.
e) Transport services are required by the tourists so the demand for vehicles increases like the auto rickshaws, buses and taxis.
f) Travel agents, translators, guides, photographers and other such professions related to tourism get a boost.
