Environmental management
Q1 What is ecosystem ? Which are it's different components ?
Ans :- Ecosystem is formed by abiotic and biotic factors and their interactions with each other. Each and every factor has a very important role in the ecosystem. Producers like plants are important. Herbivores like deer, goats, sheep, cattle, horses, camals, etc. feeding upon producers are also important. Predators like lion and tiger which prevent the overpopulation of herbivores are also equally important.
Q2 Which are the types of consumers ? What are the criteria for their classification ?
Ans :- Consumers are classified as primary consumers, secondary consumers and tertiary consumers. They are classified on the basis of the food they eat or the prey they hunt and feed on.
03 What is difference between food chain and food web?
Ans :- A food web consists of many food chains. A food chain only follows just one path as animals find food. For example, a hawk eats snake, which has eaten a frog, which has eaten a grasshopper, which has eaten grass. A food web shows the many different paths in which plants and animals are connected.
Q4 Which cycles are operated in environment ? What is their importance ?
Ans :- Natural cycles like water cycle, carbon cycle, gaseous cycles like nitrogen cycle, oxygen cycle etc. are operated in the environment. Environmental balance is maintained through continuous operation of various cycles.
Q5 State the effects of radioactive pollution ?
Ans 1) Cancerous ulceration occurs due to higher radiation of X - rays.
2) Tissues in the body are destroyed.
3) Genetic changes occur.
4) Vision is diversely effected.
Q6 What is energy pyramid ?
Ans :- An energy pyramid is a graphical model of energy flow in a community. The levels represent different groups of organisms that might compose a food chain. From the bottom - up, they are as follows :-
Humans - 10 Kcal
Fishes - 100 Kcal
Zooplanktons -1000 Kcal
Phytoplanktons -10000 Kcal
Q7 What does 'Jivo Jivasya Jivanam' means ?
Ans :- Jivo Jivasya Jivanam means that one living thing is the food of another. It is very important concept which can be observed around us. Let us take the example of lion, deer and grass. The lion eats deer, the deer eats the grass and when lion dies it is converted into nutrients for soil which is consumed by grass.
Q8 What is the difference between natural pollution and artificial pollution ?
Ans Natural Pollution :- Unacceptable and unrequired changes that occur in the surrounding environment due to natural events is called natural pollution. For example, forest fires, tsunamis, landslides, etc.
Artificial Pollution :- Unacceptable and unrequired changes that occur in the surrounding environment due to man-made or human activities is known as artificial pollution. Deforestation, industrialisation, urbanisation, etc. arethe few types of artificial pollution.
Q9 What are the important aspects of environmental conservation ?
Ans 1) All the developed, developing and under - developing countries have accepted the responsibility of environmental protection.
2) It will be possible to answer the environmental problems only if environmental protection and conservation becomes an effective public movement.
3) For this purpose, values like positive attitude and affection towards environment, knowledge about it, etc. should be inculcated among the children since their childhood. This will help to make the future generations more aware about environmental conservation and protection. So as to achieve this it is necessary to increase the awareness through education.
